Helpful staff and got the bits I wanted after some searching.
I grew up with my parents going to Mortens, and have always relied on them to provide what I need in the way of homewares etc. Huge range of stock, very helpful and knowledgeable staff and good quality products. I am often surprised that their prices aren't much more than cheaper shops. I am so glad this Ilkley institution is still going, sadly we have lost so many.
Its what I would class as an outstanding irong mongers store of my childhood. It has the type of inventory that would take too long to list, but if there are any unusual tools or screws that you need then Mortens is definitely the place to go.When I refer to them as being the iron mongers store of old, this isnt intended as a criticism - quite the opposite in fact. The staff are very well versed in the type of stock, fixtures, fittings and tools that they hold. To make things even easier the staff have a lot of personal experience to draw upon, such that if they cant help with your immediate request then theres usually a colleague that can help! Its a bit like a very large man cave, though my wife assures me that she thinks their service is marvellous and that she was equally welcomed, so it is frequently the only place to visit when youre in need of decent quality tools (or some special types) etc.Well worth a visit even if you start without any intent of purchasing anything, as a wander around the store can be very rewarding as well as an inspiration.
Excellent independent hardware shop. One of the few left. Staff go out of their way to be helpful. Highly recommended.
Love this traditional iron mongers. Every nook and cranny has something useful, not necessarily today's fashionable big warehousy type shop with hundreds of styles of one thing one has to choose from however there is always someone there to help you whether you are baking or re-decorating or just want to replace a bathroom plug.
